Useful definitions

Categories of users (as used in price lists)

End user (E-U): a Third Party which uses an item in the ECOMET Catalogue for its own commercial, industrial, or personal purposes and does not pass this item on to any further Third Party neither uses it to generate a value added service.

Broadcaster/publisher (BC): a Third Party which uses an item in the ECOMET Catalogue in order to provide a service by means of broadcast or publishing in any form.

Service provider (SP): a Third Party which acquires an item in the ECOMET Catalogue in order to supply value added services under specific licence conditions to a further Third Party that is clearly identified and known to the first Third Party.

You will notice that in the price lists, 2 columns specify prices for Service Providers.

Service Provider (1) is the price to be paid for the data or products, excluding a redistribution licence for value added service (internal use, e.g. in databases)

Service Provider (2) is the price to be paid for the data or products, including (internet) redistribution licence, for value added services

Definition of a Value Added Service

Value Added Services (VAS): all meteorological services which are:

  • Derived from one or more Products; and
  • Specifically conceived for the needs of users; and
  • Made available under specific license conditions

Retrievable Value Added Services (R-VAS): Any VAS from which the original Products can be retrieved or reverse engineered without significant technical effort and/or expense.

Non-retrievable Value Added Services (NR-VAS): Any VAS from which the original Products cannot be retrieved or reverse engineered without significant technical effort and/or expense.

Classification of Data and Products

Data: All meteorological, oceanographic, hydrological and environmental observations obtained by National Meteorological Services (NMS)

Products: All real-time meteorological information in the form of pictures, charts, text or data files, resulting from the transformation or processing of data
